Appointments
Your visits with the physician are scheduled by appointment in order to ensure efficient use of time for you and your doctor. When you call the clinic, a receptionist will ask the nature of your problem in order to determine the amount of time to allot for your appointment.

Upon scheduling your first appointment, you will be assigned to a physician team consisting of your primary physician and several other doctors who provide coverage if your doctor is not available. If a member of your family already sees a doctor at BFHC all efforts will be made to assign you to the same physician.

This is a family practice residency program. Your primary care physician will complete the program after three years and leave you in the care of a fellow associate.

Office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Emergency Phone Calls
After office hours, on weekends and holidays, an Austin Academic Family Medicine physician is available for your emergency needs. Please call 467-5365 for after-hour instructions.

Same Day Appointments
If you become ill, we have a limited number of same day appointments for our patients who require urgent care. Please call the clinic to schedule a same day or next day appointment for evaluation of acute illness or injury which is not life-threatening. BFHC is NOT a walk-in clinic. Please call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Referrals
Referral processing requires up-to-date patient information and a current copy of an insurance card. If your address or insurance carrier changes, please notify our office as soon as possible. Referral processing time requires 7-10 business days. Please plan accordingly. Medicare, and some private insurance plans, do not require referrals and may allow a patient to make appointments with their specialist of choice. Please review your insurance plan or call your insurance company directly.

Forms
If you have any forms that need to be completed, such as physical exam, insurance forms, etc., you will need to be seen by a physician and your forms will be returned within 7 working days. This policy also applies to letters or notes that require a physician’s signature.
